A Little About Me

Hi! I’m Laurie, a yoga and Pilates teacher and teacher trainer, originally from California, now based in New York City. I’ve always loved teaching and learning, which led me into a long career in mathematics education, where I spent over 15 years as a classroom teacher, teacher educator, and researcher. Along the way, I turned to yoga and Pilates to help manage chronic pain—and the practices changed my life. In 2011, I shifted my focus from academia into the world of mindful movement.

I earned my initial 500-hour yoga teaching certification through YogaWorks in NYC and have continued my studies ever since, learning from many incredible teachers across a range of styles and modalities. My primary teacher and biggest influence is Annie Carpenter, with whom I’ve completed over 500 hours of SmartFLOW training. Most recently, I completed my Pilates certification through Moving Strength in New York.

My classes use movement to cultivate mindfulness and create a space for self-inquiry. Through clear instruction, intelligent sequencing, and a down-to-earth style, I aim to create a warm, supportive environment where students of all levels feel welcome, challenged, and empowered.

An avid hiker, backpacker, and nature lover, I also lead YogaWalks, retreats, and workshops that weave together yoga, hiking, and time outdoors as a way to foster connection and groundedness. When I’m not teaching or playing outside, I spend my time designing colorful patterns for fabric and home décor. You can find some of my designs on Spoonflower.
