Laurie Sleep is a yoga teacher and teacher trainer currently living in New York City. She earned her initial 500-hour certification through YogaWorks in NYC. Laurie has studied extensively with Annie Carpenter and is an Advanced SmartFLOW Graduate with over 500 hours of SmartFLOW training. Laurie also has training in myofascial release and can incorporate these techniques into her classes and private sessions.
Laurie's classes use movement to cultivate mindfulness and create a space for self-inquiry. With clear instruction, intelligent sequencing, and a down-to-earth style, Laurie creates a warm and encouraging environment for students of all levels. An avid hiker, backpacker, and nature lover, Laurie also leads YogaWalks, retreats, and workshops that integrate yoga, hiking, and nature as a way to facilitate connection and groundedness. In addition to teaching yoga, Laurie has a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education and over 15 years of experience as a classroom teacher, teacher educator, and educational researcher. Teaching yoga provides the opportunity to combine her passion for yoga with her love of teaching, and she feels fortunate to be able to share this amazing practice with others. When not teaching yoga or playing outdoors, Laurie spends her time designing colorful patterns for fabric and home decor. You can find some of her designs on Spoonflower. |
